Hiatus hernia
The hiatus hernia (Lat: Opening) or diaphragmatic hernia is special type of hernia which cannot be seen externally. Many patients only have slight symptoms, such as acid reflux and occasional digestive problems. Some cases lead to serious symptoms such as chest pains, flatulence, belching, and difficulty swallowing. A gastroscopy and tests to determine the gastric acid levels and the mobility of the esophagus are necessary to correctly diagnose a hiatus hernia.
